English (ESOL)

English (ESOL)

The ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) program is open to individuals who are 16 years of age or older and not enrolled in another public school. Applicants seeking enrollment into the ESOL program must pay for registration, pay for tuition, and take a placement test.

For information about the locations and class times of the ESOL program, go to ESOL Class Times & Locations.

  • Persons enrolling for English classes should go to the bottom of this page or Apply Now on the top right of this website.

Initial cost is $70.00 ($30.00 tuition, $25.00 placement test, $15.00 registration).

Cost for continuing students is $45.00 ($30.00 tuition and $15.00 registration).

  • New students, whether face-to-face or virtual classes, must take the Student Test of English Progress and Success (STEPS) in person at the Main or Poinciana locations.

The STEPS test consists of Listening and Reading. While there is no pass or fail on the STEPS test, you should try to do your best so you are placed in the proper ESOL level. The test will take almost 3 hours to complete.

  • English level, start date, time, and student identification card will be given immediately after completing the STEPS test.

The cost for the ALCO student identification card is included in the registration fee.

*Since ALCO is a publicly-funded adult education program, ALCO does not require or issue Visas.
