GED® Testing

The GED® test is made up of 4 subjects: Mathematical Reasoning, Reasoning through Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science. You don’t have to take all 4 tests at once – you can space them out however it suits you and go at your own pace. Here's an overview of what is on the GED® by subject area:

  • Information sheet for a Mathematical Reasoning test covering topics like basic math, geometry, algebra, and graphs, with details on test duration, format, and allowed calculators.
  • Information sheet for a Reasoning Through Language Arts test covering reading comprehension, argument analysis, grammar, and a written essay, with details on test duration, format, and question types.
  • Information sheet for a Social Studies test covering reading comprehension, historical analysis, and data interpretation, with details on test duration, format, and allowed resources.
  • Information sheet for a Science test covering reading comprehension, experimental design, and data interpretation, with details on test duration, format, and allowed resources.

Each GED® test subject is $38.00 for a total of $152.00.

If you did not pass one of your GED® test subjects, you are given two subsequent retests, with no restrictions between retakes. If you fail the third or any subsequent retest, you must wait 60 days for your next attempt.

Special test accommodations must be requested and approved. They are considered on a case-by-case basis and include things such as extra testing time, extra breaks, and a separate testing room.

For GED® FAQs, available dates, and to register, please visit GED® Testing Service or call 1-877-EXAM-GED (877-392-6433).
